Bringing Youth Work back to South East Somerset!

Youth Connect South West is bringing youth work back to South East Somerset

Exciting news for young people in Bruton, Castle Cary, Milborne Port and Wincanton as Youth Connect South West (YCSW) announces plans to introduce positive youth activities to the area. A consortium of town and parish councils has partnered up with Youth Connect South West and the Somerset Community Foundation to bring Youth Work back to South East Somerset.

Youth Connect have been delivering a regular Youth Club at Stalbridge on Mondays, Henstridge on Fridays, and we have just started running a new session in Milborne Port on a Thursday.

This project has been in the planning stage for a while and YCSW are now excited to be taking the next steps. Sam Plummer (Head of Operations and Practice for YCSW) did a small-scale study of young people’s needs in Somerset as part of a larger study funded by the SES Local Community Network. When asked about the news that work is starting Sam said “It's amazing to see this work starting to come to life, it has been a long time in the making and YCSW is really hoping to see it have a positive impact for young people in the area”.

Rob Rumming-Pain, an experienced Youth Worker with a background in Rural Youth Work in Bath and North East Somerset, has been appointed to oversee the project across South East Somerset. Rob will commence a six-week mapping process on May 1st, 2024, aimed at understanding the local youth landscape, engaging with stakeholders, and gathering input from young people themselves. Rob and the team will be out in the community during the week - look on our social media pages for locations and times.

If you see the team out in your area be sure to say hello, they will be visible in YCSW branded clothing. The insights gained from this process will inform the development of future youth-focused initiatives, potentially including regular youth cafés or youth nights tailored to the community's needs.

YCSW encourages local residents interested in paid employment or volunteering opportunities working with young people, to get in touch to explore available opportunities further.
